Establishing Paternity

Fathering a child does not automatically establish a parent-child relationship between a father and a child. The Law Office of Ruby Garcia, PLLC assists both mothers and fathers in confirming parentage and establishing the legal rights to the child. Parentage suits involve the establishment of orders that set forth legal rights and duties of the parents, visitation, conservatorship, child support and medical support.

What is Paternity?

Under the Texas Family Code, a “parent” is a mother, a man presumed to be the father, a man allegedly determined to be the father, a man who has been adjudicated to be the father by a court of competent jurisdiction, a man who acknowledges paternity, or an adoptive mother or father. Generally, this term does not include a parent as to whom the parent-child relationship has been terminated. Texas Family Code Section 101.024.
